all done for now
I finished the last of the busy work for [small] Works today.
It is funny how you don't really realize how intensely focused you get when you are in the midst of something and then when it's done you're like, "wow...I need to find something new to do."
That's where I am at tonight. I'm enjoying (sort of) being done for now but now I need to get back to a more steady working on/making something every day routine. Hmmm...

365/2013 - Day 280
yesterday's busy work pays off in today's busy work
Because I took the time yesterday to thoroughly work out the problems I was having with the forms and slide show, today's busy work went more smoothly. I still had a few hitches, but they were quicker to remedy.
I got some feedback on a couple of the letters I composed -- I had my gut feelings about the letters, but I needed to get a couple of other opinions from people who are not as new to these tasks as I am. In the end, I should've just trusted my gut feeling all along. There are a couple of other notes/letters that need feedback but I think they are pretty good...we'll see.
I had to make notes to myself as I worked out the randomizing of the images for the larger 2D slide show. I will put the note in with my other papers for this show, but I also wanted to acknowledge my process...just in case the paper is misplaced at some point. I didn't want to write it all out again though, so I scanned it...LOL.
There -- now I've got a record of it...as if it will ever make sense to me again.
So...I think I am all set for the 3-person jurying panel tomorrow morning. I just need to give the dining room a quick tidying up tonight and then clean the kitchen and I am done for tonight! I am excited for tomorrow. I've been on a jurying panel, but I have never run one before. I must say that even with the mild frustrations I've run into, I have really, really enjoyed getting ready for this!

365/2013 - Day 279
busy work and reworking busy work
Today has been a long day of figuring out computery things and making tables and forms.
It may look like simple stuff, but it makes me nuts when I start filling out my form and the spaces expand to accommodate a title or medium and then that throws the whole thing off and the next page continues the table and I can't get rid of the "leftover" part. I honestly do like making the forms for myself, but it gets a bit frustrating sometimes.
I've also been composing email notes, letters to entrants, etc.
I finished the 3D art submissions log in, juror worksheets, and slide show. That slide show was also driving me crazy because it wouldn't line the jpgs up the way I put them into the folder. I finally had to go back to my original files and change them, then I could reorder the slide show folder. Done with all of that...but that was the short list. Still plenty to do tomorrow!

365/2013 - Day 278
back to busy work
I finally chained myself to my computer today and chose photographs from the opening reception of "Under the Influence" so that I could update this blog post.
Tonight I am back at it working on the slide show(s) for the 3-juror panel for "[small] Works Exhibit". I decided I want to separate the submissions into 2D and 3D slide shows for the panel -- that way I can shuffle the order of the submissions/artists and still keep the detail views (for 3D) in order with their main photo.

365/2013 - Day 270
guess what -- more busy work
I think "busy" work is pretty much all I am going to have time for until after "my" show opens next Friday. And I am also working on the Nov/Dec show at the same time -- that Call for Entries deadline is next Saturday. In between time I have to drop off my collage for the Canton show on Monday morning, Monday and Tuesday I have artists dropping off their work at NAH, a half-day or so of figuring out how I want the show to look, one more artist drop off, then hanging the show on Thursday during the day. Thursday night is the opening reception for the Canton Fine Art Exhibition -- Sue and I are going to that...I am really excited that Sue gets to see the program there...so cool. Friday morning Joan and I will go and get the food for the opening reception, then at 2:00 I pick up the generously donated cake pops, cookies, and brownies from Sorella's Bakery and make a mad dash back to collect myself before I need to get to the NAH at around 5. The NHS home coming parade begins right in front of the NAH and runs through town and up towards my house and turns onto 8 Mile to go to the athletic field. Streets will be closed by the NAH so I want to be sure not to get temporarily locked out of downtown...the parade starts at 6, "my" opening is from 6-9. The parade should be cleared out of our street by 6:15 or so.
But this morning Peggy and I went to the Ferndale Public Library to drop off our artwork that was accepted into "The Power of Myth" show. We ran into Terri who was there to drop off her fabulous collage "Kitten Kong". I think this is going to be a really great show. "The Power of Myth" runs from September 30 to November 10. The reception is on Saturday, October 12 and there will be live music by The Hand in the Ocean.
In addition, on Monday, October 21, there will be an evening of poetry, storytelling, fables and urban legends -- with live music. And much to her surprise and delight, Peggy learned today that her collage "Myth of the Eclipse" is the featured artwork on the poster for this event.

"Myth of the Eclipse" is my very favorite of Peggy's artwork and I have many favorites!

After we got back to this area I stopped by the other possible sponsor for "Under the (Inspired) Influence" to talk a little more about if they can do it or not. They are insanely busy right now but were glad that I stopped back in. They will let me know early next week. Fingers crossed! They want to have their business and the NAH get together on occasion and this would be a great starting point...I hope it works out.
Then I went to the NAH to talk with Joan about some things and talk to Patti about some things. Then I came home and worked on more letters and forms for both shows. I took a dinner break, fed the cats, did a couple of loads of laundry and then looked over the paperwork I did today. Things are coming along nicely. I really DO love all of this "busy" work!

365/2013 - Day 269
okay...one photo
Another day of errands and exhibit(s)-related stuff to work on...but today I have a photo to show.
The postcards for the October exhibit at the NAH (the one I am the curator of) were delayed in the mail, had to be reshipped and arrived today! I spent some time at the Art House putting the address labels and postage on the postcards. Thanks to Joan and Patti for printing the labels and setting up a space for me to work in...and for running them down to the post office and starting the drops to venues in downtown Northville.
Tonight I am surrendering to back pain and horrendous allergy problems. I am not sick, I'm just tired of fighting this stuff...time for meds, cold packs, etc.

365/2013 - Day 268
more busy work
No photos again today because I have been engaged in more of the "busy" work I love.
I stopped by the NAH to consult with Joan on the forms I am making for myself for the "[small] Works Exhibit". I am not using a traditional Excel spreadsheet thing. I am not very computery. All of this stuff takes me a lot of time and trial & error...making a batch of mock columns then filling them in with random stuff and numbers and then cutting and pasting all of it and then going back and erasing the words and numbers. There is no doubt an easier, more efficient way to do this. There are probably formulas to work with to figure out how wide each column should be to accommodate titles and emails, etc. But you know what? This works for me. I am pretty much the only person who will be working with my pages...I just needed to make sure I wasn't forgetting any essential elements. Plus, Joan and I came up with a better description for me than "organizer" -- which I felt made me sound like the whole thing was my idea, etc. when I am merely the one keeping track of things and keeping stuff in order. We are calling me the coordinator of the "[small] Works Exhibit".
You know, I realized tonight that doing all of this for myself from the ground up reminds me of when I was volunteering with DDG and making lists for the front table for check in purposes. I LOVED that and I miss it. Now I am kind of sort of doing the similar process with "my" version of this show. Yay.
There are basic things that need to be done and ways to present things to the jurors so that they are totally unaware of the artists associated with the images that are viewing. I've got that covered and I am pretty much going by the book on that. But I like my individual juror forms and my art intake forms and my artists contact forms.
I love doing this busy work -- this sorting and organizing and re-doing things...I really, really do. (Took you are such a Capricorn.)

365/2013 - Day 267
whoa -- where did the time go!
No photos to show. Today I have run a bunch of different errands, had dinner and visited with a friend, and worked on my paperwork for the Nov/Dec exhibit at the NAH.
Submissions have started to come in for "[small] Works Exhibit", the juried open call for art show that I am organizing as part of the Northville Art House's Nov/Dec exhibits and holiday art market.
I am making forms for recording the artwork and artist information, making a juror's results sheet, renaming files for the CD of artwork that the jurors will see, etc. I am having a blast -- this is the kind of "busy" work I absolutely LOVE!

365/2013 - Day 227
another no-photos day
But plenty of "busy" work and thinking and brainstorming and stuff.
I had my physical this morning, worked on some paperwork and ideas for a show I am the coordinator for later this year. I also shipped off the Tookies, mailed a bunch of other things, met with Patti at the Art House, went to the grocery store, came home and took Benadryl.
The Benadryl kicked in late today...I am wiped out.
See you tomorrow.

2012/365 - Day 82
not much to see today
Today is a day of "busy" work. Prep, process, progress on several projects. I like to have several projects in progress so that I can go from one thing to another and hopefully avoid any of the work becoming too tedious.

I have at least 300 images to print, cut, sign and sort...these will be little trading cards that will be included in a DIY version of Penciled In for Art-o-mat.

Two friends have given me a TON of great magazines. Today is a day of sorting through the magazines, pulling images and putting them in the general stash. I am also bagging up the magazine guts for recycling as I go along. These will be used for collages, mainly for Animal People for Art-o-mat.

A couple of days ago I found a color of Moda-Dea Wild yarn I have never seen before. I HAD to grab the two skeins that were available. And now that means I will be starting a new edition of Tookies finger puppets for Art-o-mat. Only this time I am not going to do it so feverishly -- I learned my lesson with injuring my hands the last time.
This is a photo of the sorted gloves and fingers and supplies.

The matte medium is looking a lot clearer today on canvas #7. I will be trying to read it later.

Ditto for canvas #8.
There are also a number of plaster cloth guys in very stages in my studio...not to mention all of the plaster cloth ideas that keep poking at me. And just about everything I look at in my house gets the "hey -- I could do that for Art-o-mat" notation in my notebook.
