365/2013 - Day 229

starting a new spikey guy

But I want this one to be smaller than the first two spikey guys.  I am also trying to put the spikes and other embellishments on before I get the body partly sewn this time.  It is obviously much easier to work with while it is flat.  I am using a thin sewing needle today and it is hard to do much more work on this guy today -- my wrists and fingers are beginning to hurt...I want to keep sewing, but I have to stop for tonight.

I forgot to take the early steps pics...I am sewing flat this time and will add shape as I go along.  It is hard to see in these photos, but the material is the color-changing t-shirts stuff that my sister gave me.  This shirt is a light green that turns yellow when it gets warm.  I am sewing on the "wrong" side of the fabric for a little different look.
And this is as far as I got tonight, my hands are complaining...thin sewing needle.

Also today...

Patti at the Northville Art House Store asked if I would make some Tookies to have as a lower price point item.  She liked both the Tookies but hadn't seen any Tooklets...she liked them both when I made some samples and showed her.  I think I came up with a way to display them.

I think this thing is meant for holding photos or xmas cards.  I put a colored paper clip through the Tookies and Tooklets and in person they look pretty cool -- we'll see how Patti feels about it.
These are some of the Tooklets I came up with...

365/2013 - Day 59

I need just one more thing for the upcoming show

I need a way to display the stuffed spikey creature.  I think I figured it out -- I will use a tomato cage -- but I need to embellish (or at least decorate) it.  I have several ideas in mind but wrapping the wires with the tape-style yarn that I use for the "hair" on Tookies finger puppets is the first step.

I already have quite a stockpile of the yarn and because it is variegated, I won't need to try to create a "random" look...the yarn is doing it all by itself...yay.

whoa -- this is a LOT more work than I realized!
I am not even going to tell you how long it took to wrap just the first tier

I think that the yarn will soften the look of the tomato cage's wire.  I like it but I definitely want/need to do more to it besides simply covering up ALL of the wire.

365/2013 - Day 58

done, done, done, and done!

I managed to pull together four pieces for the upcoming show.  The plaster cloth snake, the Atomic Fireball Happy Hour guy, the manikin, and the stuffed spikey creature.  Until they are in place at the gallery, they are feeling a wee bit shy.

Whew -- I need a break!

365/2013 - Day 48

more painting and some sewing

I base coated the marsupial today.

And tonight I am working on the head of the stuffed spikey guy.  He needs eyes, ears, a mouth, and to have his circle of head spikes attached.  I probably won't get to the ears and mouth tonight.

I am going to try to give the underside of the plaster cloth snake a base coat of paint before I go to bed.
