365/2013 - Day 273

sneaky peeks

Tonight was the second night of art drop off for the show I am curating at the Northville Art House.

Oh. Man.

Five artists brought their work in tonight -- I am speechless.

Here are some snapshots from tonight...what a good time!  (And plenty of wacky photo bombing.)

Diane Hawkey was first to arrive, photo bombed by husband Doug Spalding and daughter Maura.
Doug watches Anita Andersons unpack her pieces...with Maura cracking me up.
This is blurry because of the fast and furious picking up of Diane's fabulous beads...with Juana Moore and Patti Witte.
Hi, Doug!
You-know-who with Anita and Renee Dooley (who was arriving).

Anita and Juana inspect one of Juana's incredible pieces, a tribute to Henry Darger.
Mike Sivak photo bombs Juana.

Even if I do say so myself...this is going to be magical!

365/2013 - Day 74

Artists Reception at Woods Gallery

Tonight was the Artists Reception for the mixed media group show "Spirits" at Woods Gallery in Huntington Woods, MI.  It features the work of four friends:  Renee Dooley, Lisa Grix, me, and Juana Moore.  It is such a lovely show I am so happy to be a part of it.  Here are a few photos, but check out the entire photo album at the link below.

"Miss Buttons" (detail) -- Renee Dooley
"The Keeper of Secrets" -- Took Gallagher
"Ruh" -- Lisa Grix
"The Spirit of Bad Dolls" -- Juana Moore

Thank You to everyone who came to the reception tonight!  The show runs through April 11 during regular hours of the Huntington Woods Library.

Too many photos to list in this blog post but here is a:  LINK to my photo album on Facebook

365/2013 - Day 63

whew -- stuff delivered to the gallery for the upcoming show

Today Juana and I had lunch, changed the art in the Art-o-mat machine at LIFT in Royal Oak, stopped by Utrecht Art Supplies AND got to see Anita, then dropped our stuff off for the Spirits show and hung out while Lisa started to put it all together.

I am totally worn out so here are some photos from the gallery part of our day.

all packed up and ready to go!
Juana making her title/price list
Lisa pulling nails and bringing in pedestals
two of my pieces
Lisa putting "Cirque du Quillz" on a taller pedestal -- yep, he needs a piece of glass underneath him so he'll fit on the pedestal
Lisa with my "Keeper of Secrets"
LOL -- he looks cool spread over three short pedestals
looks so cool
my "Woodland Bop" and Juana's lion guy having a little chat
yay!  Renee arrived!
Renee checking out one of Juana's great pieces
say "hi" to the blog, ladies!
it is starting to take shape -- this is going to be a really good looking show!

And here is the front of the postcard for the show -- the Artists Reception is next Friday.

another great postcard, Lisa!

365/2013 - Day 2

more short spurts

Today I worked in spurts on cleaning the studio and getting some art onto the walls.

I put the "self-portrait" collage on the wall today -- yay.  This was made in our 2nd Thursday group a while back.

I rearranged a couple of items in this space.  I found a frame for the beast up in the right top area.  That and the tiger in the lower right area were painted by little girl sisters -- purchased at the Grosse Pointe Art Center during a show.  Mary Fortuna's minotaur doll and Renee Dooley's skeleton girl doll have found seating on Leann Meixner's voodoo boxes.  Carla Morabito's woodburned goat-like guy sits on top of another Leann box.  The blue guy in the film box came from the Detroit Artists Market "That DAM Box 2" a while back.

I had to make a trip into the basement to "shop" for a couple of frames.  I did a little bit of work while I was down there (big mistake).  I think these two pieces look like they've always been in this area of wall space.

The new additions are William Hessian's wolf/cat guy and Bonnie Pfingst's fox.

Here is William's piece closer up.

And I am DONE fighting with static electricity tonight, or I would've made more Tookies.  Geez.

All I could manage was these four...my hands and arms were covered with yarn and cut off bits.

2012/365 - Day 17

hmmm...

I just came home from a lovely meet up with Juana and Renee. One of the things we talked about is my dread of painting, etc. Renee said sometimes when you work on something you need to leave it for a little while and then you can see it another way.

That's what kind of what is going on with the body/base of the cat-creature. I was just now sitting here at the computer and from here, this was the view.

And it gave me an idea...

And this is what I saw.

I have been struggling with this and not knowing if I liked what I was doing with it...maybe seeing this will give me a new take on things?

The drop off days are quickly approaching.

And I know I said no more process photos of the cat-creature until it was dropped off, but I couldn't help this one. But it's not like I am showing the whole thing...and this may (or may not) remain.
