Day 3 - 365/2014

Day Three

Tonight was First Friday already -- the first exhibit of the New Year at the Northville Art House.  "Altered Perceptions: The Work of Jan Brown" is a gorgeous show.  I snapped a few quick photos before people started arriving.  My friend photographer Terri Light came by to take the real photos for the show.  I took up my usual station at the front door -- greeter/guest counter.  The show got a lot of great press and despite the frigid temperatures we had a very respectable (and enthusiastic) turn out...most everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the artwork on their way out.

Here is the description from the postcard:  "A life-long artist, Jan Brown began her journey into abstract expressionism three years ago.  Her paintings force viewers to alter their perceptions on how a painting can move them, how pre-conceived ideas can change, and how color, line and shapes can cause reactions that sometimes force people out of their comfort zones.  Through her nonrepresentational work, the audience is forced to confront memories, hidden images and emotions, and find their own message withing the art."

This is fellow exhibit committee member Bob Wesley who coordinated this exhibit.  (I coaxed him into the "ta-daaa" pose.)

365/2013 - Day 304

two really great shows for First Friday!

Tonight was the First Friday opening reception for two super exhibits at the Northville Art House.  The Northville Camera Club's "Through the Lens" is in the lower level and it looks really really good.

"[small] Works Exhibit" is in the upper gallery, along with sixteen raffle gift baskets.  This show looks really swell, too -- if I do say so myself.  Both exhibits feature a lot of different styles and wide range of subjects and mediums.

Tonight I was in Northville Arts Commissioner mode and I volunteered to be the person who greets and keeps the count of guests coming into the NAH.  I actually enjoy doing this sort of position -- I get to see everyone who comes in and I can remember people when they leave and come back in and not recount them.  I had a good time!

AND...here are some shots of the way Mary Keys displayed my Tookies and Tooklets in the NAH Store.  It is sort of hard to take photos in the Store, and at night it is harder.  Trust me, the finger puppets and dolls look really cute in the little "nests".

I need to go back to the Art House tomorrow and really take a longer look at the raffle baskets.  As a Commissioner I have thirty tickets I either need to sell or purchase myself.  I may try to sell some of them, but I usually end up buying that many before the night of the drawing anyway, so who knows...

2012/365 - Day 278

sneak peek number two

I was at the Northville Art House again today and wow -- what a difference a day makes!

Jeff Cancelosi is curating the exhibition that opens tomorrow evening.  He was back at it again today in full force...hanging and tweaking the finishing touches of "Vote for Me!".

Here are a few more sneak peek previews of the amazing art -- and now that the information cards are in place I can identify the artists of the works that I am showing you.

What a difference a day makes!

A couple of the many Eric Mesko "Vote 2012" signs that will be placed all around Northville...beckoning you to the show.

Believe me, you will want to see this show in person...and you will probably really want to go the opening reception tomorrow night during First Friday in Downtown Northville.  There are lots and lots of things going on and plenty of art all around town -- including SIX Inside|Out pieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts!  The Northville Art House has a map and brochure available about the six DIA art stops.  Come to Northville on Friday!

Vote for Me!  - Artists Respond to the Presidential Election of 2012
Show curated by Jeff Cancelosi

With the 2012 Presidential election just around the corner, the Northville Art House presents an eclectic artistic vision of this year's political fun as Detroit and Ann Arbor area artists respond to the election process.  This year's Vote for Me! exhibit continues an election year tradition the Art House began in 2008, and this show promises to be even more intriguing than the last.

Participating artists include:  Adnan Charara, Topher Crowder, Sergio DeGiusti, Carl Demeulenaere, Darcel Deneau, Rocco DePietro, John Dinzer, Greg Fadell, Matthew Hanna, Deb Hyde, Lester Johnson, Dennis Michael Jones, Nora Chapa Mendoza, Eric Mesko, Sabrina Nelson, Craig Paul Nowak, Gloria Pritschet, Victor Pytko, Jaire Saad Ruddy, Senghor Reid, Gilda Snowden, Jack Summers, Joan Potter Thomas, and Larry Zdeb.
