today's other Arto-piece

Here is the piece that I made for today.

It is for my "Penciled In" series of tiny portraits for
Art-o-mat®.

This is a "working" dog.

Day Eighty-Nine

I am running late again today. I still plan on
making something, but in the meantime...

Here

Ya know...I am feeling something like this cat girl today...like I have a monster in front of me that matches the color of my eyes.

Day Eighty-Eight

Late afternoon and I am still not very motivated. (heavy sigh)

Starting tomorrow I am getting back on the make-a-thing-a-day train in addition to posting the KT Goodlove blocks. There, I said it out loud and now I have to do it.

I wish I had some of those cookies right about now.

Day Eighty-Seven

Hokey smokes! I nearly forgot to post something for today! I am wiped out.

For some reason, today's bout was really exhausting! The Sunday after a bout is usually my "recovery" day -- and man oh manny man -- it is going to take a lot of recovering tomorrow! Whew! I left at one and I just got home...a few minutes after eleven.

Anyway -- here is a block that cracked me up. The cat's face is so funny to me. I can't tell whether she is annoyed or hunting or doing that "singing" thing that cats do to birds, or if she is just stuck in traffic.

You know that singing thing that cats do -- that eh, eh eh eh, eh ehhhhehh thing? Can you hear me doing it while I type?

oooh -- big time DERBY action tomorrow!!!

Hey -- this is so exciting -- check it out!

Detroit Derby Girls vs Windy City Rollers

Day Eighty-Six

This will be a very very beeeeezeeee day and night. It is the day before a Detroit Derby Girls Travel Team bout and there is much preparation to do, getting my lists together for the front table. Thus, this early posting and one simple question:

"You ever eat barbecued bologna?"

ahhhhhhhhh...

I made an Animal People collage, and I am having a total "Ahhhhhh!" moment.

I was so absorbed with making the rest of the KT Goodlove blocks these past few days that I used some dark and rainy morning time to make a collage for me...just for the sake of making one. Feels real good.

I don't know if this will eventually end up in the batch of Animal People I am working on for Artists in Cellophane, but I just wanted/needed to post this.

Day Eighty-Four

Today will be a busy day for a couple of reasons.

#1 -- yep, it is a wonderfully dark and rainy morning...art abounds!

#2 -- this is the Wednesday before a Detroit Derby Girls bout -- and a Travel Team bout at that. (A little more prep to welcome the visiting team and their staff + supporters.) This is also the evening of an Events Committee meeting. So I will go to practice, catch up on stuff with some people, then go to the meeting afterwards. I also begin work on my various lists and start getting things ready for bout day. I probably put more into it than I need to, but I enjoy doing it and it helps to make things run more smoothly for some of the bout jobs. Cool beans!

So...cleaning up after Mr. Pickle guy. And a reminder to listen.

Day Eighty-Three

Cute girl walking home with triple scoop ice cream cone spots sidewalk artist sheep boy -- sounds like a match made in Heaven to me!

Day Eighty-Two

You know how when you are out somewhere (usually by yourself) ... walking on the sidewalk ... in a store ... getting into your car in a parking lot ... and you see someone and you are not sure if you know them, and suddenly they start waving, then you think they are waving at you, and you wave back, then stop midway through the wave because you're not really sure if they are waving at you? I think that is what is going on in this collage ... not sure though. (ha)

Day Eighty-One

Much too much going on lately...maybe that is what inspired today's block...subliminally, that is.

Whether it is make up gifts (as in making up after a fight) or make up gifts (as in dream up/pretend), this cat girl seems pretty wow'd at the thought of a gigantic ice cream cone guy.

Day Eighty

I wonder if rabbits eat bread...

You know how when you go to the zoo -- or a petting zoo -- and people are quite often tossing bread to the animals? Why? It's not like animals are bakers in their natural habitats...why do people seem to think that animals want to eat bread?

That is actually one of my first childhood memories of the Detroit Zoo. Wondering why people would throw Wonder Bread to giraffes and zebras.

Day Seventy-Nine

Today is a day of errands, art and visiting with a friend.

I have cat boxes to clean, about a bajillion errands to run and then I am off to Ann Arbor to visit with my artist friend (and fellow blogger) (and former Detroit Derby Girl) Casey. Check out her Etsy shop, too!

When I get home tonight it is back to the KT Goodlove groove...I am aiming to complete all of the blocks for the series this week and ship them to Artists in Cellophane on
Monday or Tuesday.

Day Seventy-Six

This time I left most of Kettle's l-o-n-g neck...I usually position the heads lower to shorten the necks when I need to, but this one looked good long.

The background was not unpainted by Kettle...it is salmon-colored (as in the Crayola crayon color of my childhood) and for some reason doesn't pick up well on my scanner. The entire background and girl's body are by Kettle. Her head, the flowers and number "19" were added by me.

Call for art for fundraiser!

I just got this note from Clark Whittington, creator and Bureau Chief of Art-o-mat® (I may have mentioned Art-o-mat® before in this blog).

It's a cool call for art to benefit an art center that is also an Art-o-mat
® machine host.

When you look at the link, check out the cool video of the volunteers and interns setting up last year's exhibit.

Come on...do it! You know you want to!

" hi all

just spreading the word about an exhibit/fundraiser that one of our machine hosts will be doing soon. they are inviting artists to make small works to be delivered by early may.

http://www.rochestercontemporary.org/6x6x2009.html

i find this approach to be very well presented.

sincerely,

clark "

I am really diggin' this one!

Day Seventy-Four

It feels like I haven't done a finger puppet in quite a while, so that is what I made for today. The finger puppets are for my series "All Ears" for Art-o-mat®.

The photos of the full and side views look like mug shots to me. Made me laugh.

Day Seventy-Three

Ooooh, I'm beat -- I've been working on derby stuff in prep for tonight's bout for the last few days solid...now there is a two week break before the next one...so I've got a whole week of "time off" (mostly). We had to change the way we did the Will Call and pre-door ticket sales today and I was really stressed out about it. I was worried for the people who would be doing the "new" job on a different floor from where we normally do it (actually it is usually my job) and I was worried for the incoming crowd and having them routed to a different floor and having them go to the 3rd floor and then coming up to 3M...a whole 'nother step before they can come in...and pretty much with no warning for the crowd...just a big change to deal with. But it went pretty well, thankfully. It will just take a little getting used to and a little fine tuning. (Took, do you really think anyone reading this blog CARES about this stuff???)

I'm going to dive into the KT Goodlove series next week and make as many as I can so I can get the series done quicker and send it into Artists in Cellophane so that the pieces can start hitting
Art-o-mat® machines across the country sooner. (Plus Kettle poked at me a little...LOL)

Because, you know...I was actually making a piece of art a day (not just posting one a day) but there is no hard and fast rule that says I have to do this blog that way. It is just the way I started out. (Except for those cheaty days where I posted the "Penciled In" teensy portraits that I made back in December.)

Which brings me to today's post. Heh. I am totally wiped out...I just got home and I really did plan on making an Animal People collage because I can do those fairly quickly (as opposed to the KT Goodlove, where I need to do those reverse masks for making my part of the collage look like it's "behind" Kettle's fabulous artwork.) Woah...that was a rambling sentence...I do need to go to bed.

Where was I? Oh yes. Which brings me to today. I miraculously found one last "Penciled In" teensy portrait from December. A fluffy purple cat with a green background.

I really do like these little portraits. But now I will need to start fresh because this really is the last one left. From this point on, I will be making and coloring each one from scratch...no more stockpile to pull from. "Penciled In" are colored pencil drawings on MDF blocks. They are based on ceramic tiles I have made. But a few of the characters are new and made just for the series.

Yep...I'm really rambling. I'm going to ramble on to bed now.

Dr. Katz: Frankly, we find Mr. Toast's remark rather uncalled for. Roscoe is basically a very good dog.

Day Sixty-Eight

Hmmm...as I was posting this, I realized this is a white rabbit (yes, I did just realize it...I wasn't thinking about it while I worked on the collage...cuz I was noticing the ears thing that was going on.)

Maybe this is a sort of "real" life take on Alice in Wonderland? As real life as a talking white rabbit and cat girl can be, anyway. (And which one is saying "Nothing can go wrong -- her or him?) Curiouser and curiouser...

If it had started out as an Alicey collage, it would probably be more colorful...I think there is another white rabbit "before" block in the stash...maybe I will do it as a continuation of this one...worth considering, anyway.
