2015 | Day 118

Day One Hundred Eighteen

I am going to try to get back into the blog-post-a-day thing...starting today.  I won't beat myself up about if it doesn't happen again or when I miss a day...but I am going to make an effort to try.

Today my good friend Terri came over to shoot some of my 3D artwork...my plaster cloth guys and a soft doll.  These will be used on the website Terri is building for me.

Before Terri arrived I did a little bit of prep work.  I brought out all of the plaster cloth guys and one of my soft sculpture dolls.  I had to also vacuum several of them to get the dust off.  Then I sketched out the idea I had for the photo of me for the "about me" page of the new website.  In addition, I cleared out a makeshift photo studio area for Terri to work in...this involved taking down some artwork from the walls in a corner of the kitchen and clearing off the big marble top table so we could move it out of the way...MAN, that marble is heavy!!!

Terri and I had a good time, brainstormed some basic ideas, shared a delicious pizza (with eggplant), had some great conversation/catching up time...and when I let the cats come out of the bedroom when we were all done and the kitchen was put back together, Bootsy performed on the cat exercise wheel so Terri could see it in person.  Oh...and Terri is storing  some of her artwork in my basement for a bit...we set up a table for her in the basement. All in all, it was a very good day!

2015 | Day 25

Day Twenty-Five

Today Terri and I got the auction items from the Group of Girls 2 show online at the Woods Gallery Facebook page.  Terri took photos of the artwork and I measured and recorded the pertinent information, then we came back to my house and worked on it together.

Then Terri took hi-res, color-corrected photos of three paintings by Juana that are in my collection.  Juana needs good photos of them so she can get prints made and use the images later on for other items.

Terri set up a little staging area in my guest bathroom (good natural light from the skylight and north window) and took photos for Juana.

And THEN Terri started photographing some of my artwork to use on the website I hired her to set up for me.  Wow -- I am giddy thinking about it.  Today we secured my domain name and chose a template for the website.  Terri will work on some of the elements at home and we will meet up again soon to go over what she's got so far.  I can't believe I am becoming a dot com.

Then Terri started the first round of photos of my artwork for my upcoming website.

Thank You, Terri!!!

365/2013 - Day 105

photos and decision(s) time

Today was spent working on taking decent photos of my submissions for two upcoming shows.   I tried taking pictures of 5 pieces.  You know...this is absolutely NOT an easy thing to do.  I have a big photo light on a tripod (burned out I found out) and a little set up with two photo lights (one burned out during the shooting and a plastic part broke off of the tilt/lock knob).  When I get my tax refund I really need to consider investing in a good set of lights...OR...I need to take my stuff to a real photographer.  I know it won't help the art to get juried in, but I DO know it will make all the difference in the world in my presentation.

Photographing artwork is just plain difficult and I am no longer up to the task...plus I really dislike digital photography and sizing and all that stuff.  (Geez -- suck it up, Cupcake!)

I have no shots for the blog because I don't want to reveal what is being submitted to which show.  I will report back after the results of they jurying of both shows.

365/2013 - Day 103

more painting...then decisions

Today I have been working at painting the sugar glider-creature throughout the day and night.  And finally -- at nearly 11 o'clock tonight -- I decided for sure that I am just not going to be able to finish him the way I'd like to in time for the upcoming show I was aiming for.  I will still finish him, but at a slower pace.

He has gone in a couple of different directions today/tonight but I think I have finally hit on the theme I like the best...it is just going to take a while for me to achieve it.

Also today I spent a lot of (frustrating) time trying to photograph a couple of other pieces for the same show.  Tomorrow I will go back to it with a couple of other pieces.  After that I will choose what I want to submit for consideration and then put the CD together and hope for the best.
