365 Day 127 (a day late)

past, present, future

This post is a day late. I was waiting on the notification email for the show I submitted these three collages to -- West of Center -- at Northville Art House. Alas, they didn't make the cut. Ah well, there is always next year! And I am excited to go to the show and see what DID make it.

The other reason I didn't make my midnight deadline yesterday was that I went to see the Detroit Derby Girls Travel Team take on the Indianapolis Tornado Sirens -- DDG won!
It was an incredibly exciting bout. Juana and I were sitting in a perfect spot to be able to see the jammers move through the pack...it was AWESOME! I love DDG so much!

Anyway...here are the collages. They are all hand cut paper (no digital images) and are 11"x14".
You can click on the images to get a slightly larger view.

Detroit Derby Girls & "Whip It" news/pic!!!

SO exciting!

Take a look at this article from USA TODAY about Drew Barrymore's new roller derby film "Whip It". Several of the skaters on the derby teams in the movie are actual derby girls from Detroit Derby Girls and Grand Raggidy Roller Girls. Also within the article is a link to the article "having a derby name is like being a super hero".

This is the photos link from the article and here are the DDG members who are in the pics:

1/8: Summers Eve-L (red helmet on left)
5/8: Sass Knuckles (far red helmet), Sarah Hipel (formerly known as Killbox...red helmet, plaid skirt), Vega Vendetta (red helmet, black & red tie)
6/8: Jackie Daniels of GRRG (Michigan "mitten" tattoo, plaid skirt, behind Ellen Page), Sarah Hipel (red hair, plaid skirt), Racer McChaseHer (braided hair, white socks with black stripe)

All of the DDG links will take you to the skater's team profiles at the DDG website. Within their profiles you can click on "next photo" to see more shots of that skater.

Day Eighty-Four

Today will be a busy day for a couple of reasons.

#1 -- yep, it is a wonderfully dark and rainy morning...art abounds!

#2 -- this is the Wednesday before a Detroit Derby Girls bout -- and a Travel Team bout at that. (A little more prep to welcome the visiting team and their staff + supporters.) This is also the evening of an Events Committee meeting. So I will go to practice, catch up on stuff with some people, then go to the meeting afterwards. I also begin work on my various lists and start getting things ready for bout day. I probably put more into it than I need to, but I enjoy doing it and it helps to make things run more smoothly for some of the bout jobs. Cool beans!

So...cleaning up after Mr. Pickle guy. And a reminder to listen.

This is block #27 in the Kettle + Took collaboration series "KT Goodlove" for Art-o-mat®.
