Day 62 - 365/2014

Day Sixty-Two

What did I do today...well, sorted through more magazines, worked on Biteyou (the bearlike monster creature guy that I started working on with Peggy's help back on Day 51), and hung up a really cool doll that Franciney gave me.

Ready to get to work!
Quick shot of the colors I am using so I don't forget for next time.
Trying out a layer of decorative mulberry paper to cover up the background and circles that I don't like.
Two sides of decorative mulberry paper to cover up those circles...I will probably paint over them or collage the background or something...not sure yet...but it won't stay like this.
Peggy told me to keep turning the canvas and working on it from different angles...so I did...going at it sideways.
The decorative paper close up.
I hope I can paint his face nicely.
Biteyou -- drying a bit before I move him into the studio.

Throughout the late afternoon and early evening I worked on clearing out another one of the bins of magazines...pulling images to cut later and stacking the bags in the "to be recycled" closet.

TWO empty bins!
That closet is getting kinda tippy!

Franciney bid on and won several handmade dolls at the Holly Dolly Fundraiser at Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester (I think it was around xmastime).  When Franciney was working on my taxes she asked me if I would like to have the Robert Tucker voodoo zombie doll that I had admired.  I said "YES!!!" and Juana delivered it to me last week.  Tonight I hung it in the perfect spot.

The new view from my desk...Art-o-mat art, Renee Dooley skeleton doll, Leann Meixner voodoo boxes and 2-part quilt, paper doll by me, Mary Fortuna animal dolls, Arthur Brown flaming head mask, and Robert Tucker voo doo zombie.
Okay...time to watch elevate/medicate/cold pack and watch tv!

365/2013 - Day 340

quick stop at Paint Creek, then lunch

Juana and I made a quick stop at Paint Creek Center for the Arts to drop off a couple of dolls for the Holly Dolly Fundraiser.  While we were there, we looked around in the Holiday Gift Gallery -- there are some really delightful items!

Juana spotted a couple of Tookies in one of the glass cases.
Waaay cool mugs!
Tiny robot army!
Beautifully made!
Wonderful ceramic rattles!
Juana's favorite.

After Paint Creek we went to Franciney's house (I have never been there before) and visited with Franciney and Jed (the parrot) and then Juana, Franciney and I went out to a really great lunch.  Good day!

I am taking tonight off.  My fingertips are very tender from needle pokes (from all of the sewing lately) and those super sneaky extremely dry hands cracks on the tips of your thumbs/fingers that you don't notice until they turn into exaggerated (and deep) paper cut-like owwwwwwy spots. Wah.  Poor Took.  It is also a major time-for-the-Benadryl night.

365/2013 - Day 319

fun with Juana and Franciney

Today I met up with Juana and Franciney (I don't get to see Franciney very often).  We went to the Ridge Fine Art Show to look around, shop and say hi to a few artist friends.

(I need to apologize for the not-exactly-focused photos in today's blog post...I don't know if it was the low lighting and long shutter speed and I moved or if my camera was bumped out of the right setting in my purse/tote bag...I took a LOT of pictures, but these are the only ones that are close to being in focus.)

Approaching Laurie Eisenhardt's booth.
If I had an unlimited art fund, I'd spend a lot of it at Laurie's booth...these are even more magical in person.
And there is the magical Laurie Eisenhardt, herself!
Oh man...I love this piece!
I could only choose one item today and this was what I picked...thanks, Laurie!
And look -- here is Diane Hawkey's booth!  These are so wonderful!
And geez...these adorable little owls!
Diane's is another booth where I could do a lot of damage to my bank account -- I stopped myself after this totem guy and one of Diane's fabulous little houses.  Thanks, Diane!

After the Ridge Fine Arts Show we went to have a late lunch/early dinner and we ended up at Christine's Cuisine in Ferndale.  Then we still had some time to kill before our other destination, so we went to Goldfish Tea for tea and sweets for Juana and Franciney...I am not a tea drinker and lately I've been kind of off of sweet stuff so I sipped some refreshing ice water in a glass mug.

Then we went over to LIFT Designer Toys and Gallery to see "Cryptic Beasts: A Cryptozoology Show"...an art show featuring over 25 forgotten creatures created by artists across the globe.  Again, I apologize for the blurry pictures.

This is a really great show -- you need to go see it in person!

While at LIFT we got to say hi to Kent and Franciney purchased a big vinyl toy she's had her eye on for a long time...we also had a chance to have a little chat with Kim.  And we said a very quick "hello" to Robert del Valle!
