365/2013 - Day 339 (late again, darn it)

sheesh -- another late blog entry

But I really needed to finish this guy tonight...I am going with Juana and Franciney tomorrow to drop him off at Paint Creek Center for the Arts.  I am glad I completed him.  I don't know what he is, but I like him a lot.

Here are the progress pictures from today.  From this morning and this afternoon, then after I got home from First Friday at the Northville Art House.  I needed to keep working once I got home or I probably wouldn't have finished in time for tomorrow (which is now today...and time to do a load of laundry before bed).

365/2013 - Day 338

okay, I like the newer new guy

Yes -- I needed to change the look all together of the second hand sewn doll for the Holly Dolly Fundraiser.  I like him a lot better now...I still don't know what he will finish up like, but I like him overall much better.  I will use the first set of arms/legs for something else.

Pictures from today's process/progress:

Starting over -- I liked his face so I kept it.
Choosing a fabric.  I like this one very much...
...but I like this one better.
Cutting out legs at the last moment.

He still needs arms and a lot of tweaks...but I like him.

365/2013 - Day 326

believe it or not, this took up most of today

I've been thinking about making a creature in a suit.  Today I sketched about it and thought about it and tried things out and I ended up with this so far for the hands and feet which will be made of plaster cloth and then (maybe) Aves Clayshay on top of it...not sure about that part yet.

Everything is still fairly lightweight, the weightiest parts being the wooden pieces on the hands.  I'd still like this to be a hand sewn doll with those parts added, along with a (probably) plaster cloth head.  It will be meant to hang on the wall...so far.

365/2013 - Day 312

progress on the lion-creature-guy

Tonight I remembered I have a stash of silk ribbons -- I brought them out to try to find something to join the head with the body.  And I also found a couple of stashes of beads...I ended up with the small seed beads -- the holes weren't big enough on the little wooden ones.

Choosing a silk ribbon.
Trying out colors and beads.
Trimmed hair/mane.
How it is looking so far...next, the arms and legs.

365/2013 - Day 311

starting another new hand sewn guy

This is closer to what I sketched for myself a few days ago.  It is a sort of a lion-creature-guy...sort of.

I put roughly ten hours into this guy today.  I am putting him away for the night now.

Adding a row of knotted pieces of flat ribbon-like yarn (the same stuff I use for "hair" on Tookies and Tooklets).
What the inside of the "body" looks like...no machine sewing today.
Not too bad for hand sewing from a non-sewing person.
I attached the head to the body.
I added a second row of "hair".
The yarn mane needs a good trimming.
About halfway done with the second ear attaching...my fingertips cannot pull the needle through anymore tonight.

I will most likely go back to working on this guy tomorrow night.  Tomorrow daytime I am subbing for Patti at the Northville Art House Store.

365/2013 - Day 307

nothing like what I had in mind

This is turning out to be not even close to what I had in mind, but I will stick with it for a few days and see where it goes.  That is all.
