Wednesday Morning at Joan's and an art drop off
It felt SO good to be back at Joan's this morning with Joan and Leann -- it seems like it has been SO long!
Joan worked on her pillows project, Leann worked on her sketchbook project, and I worked on my Holly Dolly project.
Leann and I swear Joan is taller now that she is back from vacation.
Me, adding more spikes to my Holly Dolly.
Twink was in the sun when I got home.
A few seconds later, Bootsy thought about joining Twink -- but they started wrasslin' instead.
Shortly after I got home Peggy called to see if I wanted to go to Birmingham Gallery today to drop off our art for the small show there.
Yes!
"He Dreams He is a Tree" and I sit on the front steps waiting for Peggy. I was a little early.

The opening for the small show will be Friday, November 30 and will run into January sometime. I will blog about it before then.

2012/365 - Day 179
a very art-full day
And when I checked the mail -- I found TWO boxes of art waiting for me!
I am still getting used to my new medication today. For most of the day I have felt like I was wrapped in cotton batting and that my head might float off on its own. Not a horrible feeling, I must admit, but not a good thing if you need to drive or do anything productive. Hopefully I will adjust quickly and get some work done. (I don't know why Blogger has decided to make my lines double-spaced for the second half of this post...I can't figure out how to fix it. Oh well.)
This morning was a glorious reunion of Wednesday Morning at Joan's...and we had a special guest -- Joan's mom, Frana.
What a lovely surprise that Frana joined us this morning!
She was excited to show us her beautiful mosaic ball.
And rightfully, so -- it is just incredible -- and Frana hasn't done mosaic work before. Man!
Look at the wonderful little red flower and the gorgeous deep blue one...and the yellow one with the square middle. I love the grouting, too.
Fantastic!
And then Leann arrived!
Frana took this photo -- I love it.
Leann shared the alphabet(s) she carved.
I am so envious of Leann's carving -- and she does it ALL with an X-ACTO knife!
I am really horrible at carving letters -- Leann is exceptionally gifted at it.

Scout is posing for today's portrait.
There is Joan's mosaic ball near the hammock.
Wow. That is all I have to say -- wow!
Leann gave Joan that nipple you see as the center of the yellow flower.
I really want to try doing one of these.
Look at the colors and patterns on the mosaic ball when Joan brought it over to the table under the red umbrella.
Yum!
Leann worked on another carving.
Could this be a partridge?
We sat outside this morning -- something I would not normally do -- but it was just so pleasant and lovely to be with my friends. Joan smashed up another piece of pottery and started to lay out a design for another mosaic ball. Leann worked on her carving. I sat and soaked it all up.
Later on I went to the Northville Art House to collect art from the show that recently closed -- West of Center. I brought home my Baby Beast and also Jon and Juana's pieces.
Baby Beast is back at home with the Cat-Creature and Chime Cat.
And when I checked the mail -- I found TWO boxes of art waiting for me!
I LOVE getting stuff in the mail -- especially art!
I purchased two sweet lolamade monsters from her Etsy shop.
These are by artist Laura Holewa.
And this one glows in the dark -- BONUS!!!
I wish I knew how to take photos of glow-in-the-dark stuff...this guy glows really bright.
And...all of this Topher-y goodness was in the other box!
This is what I won on eBay.
An etched Jack Daniels bottle...the whiskey having been personally finished off by the artist, Topher Crowder.

You really need to see this etched bottle in person to appreciate the details and the work...it is just fabulous.
That wacky Topher...this was what the bottle was wrapped in.
And this was yet another bonus in the box -- I can't recall what these little creations are called...small plastic boxes with cool artifacts inside.
I first saw the boxes at Topher's show at the Northville Art House in January. It was called "Etch, Sketch, & Stilettos: the work of Topher Crowder". Here is a link to the MotorCityBlog post about it.

2012/365 - Day 6
Northville Art House stuff
Today I needed to restock Greeny -- my Art-o-mat machine -- at Northville Art House.
Here is what I loaded into the machine today:
Origami
Wooden Cows
Repurposed Tiles
Mixed Media Animal Houses
3-D Animal Sculptures
Raku Tiles
and 3 very different styles of Painting

Greeny looks so good in this spot in the Art House's Store.

And look -- there is Miranda...she just adores the Art-o-mat!

Wow -- right next to the Art-o-mat is a display case FULL of some of Topher Crowder's work! How cool is that?
And just by chance...Miranda's dad Jeff is the organizer of Topher Crowder's solo show which opened tonight at the Northville Art House.

And oh my -- there's Topher Crowder!
I am going to go back again tomorrow when it is a bit less crowded so I can really take in all of the wondrous artwork.

365 Day 280
an afternoon (and night) with Juana Moore
It has been a long, long time since my friend Juana Moore and I have been able to spend some time like this!
First we stopped at the Northville Art House and chatted with friends Carla Morabito and Joan Potter Thomas. We viewed the current show "Outside-In", a landscape show. I am not going to show every single piece in this blog anymore...you will have to go and see the show in person yourself! Opening reception for "Outside-In" is tonight, during all of the First Friday festivities in downtown Northville.

Here is Joan at the top of the stairs, welcoming us to the exhibit.
This is a pretty large show...it is in the main gallery upstairs as well as in the lower level.
This is "Catbirds" by Topher Crowder...it is a pretty amazing piece. From far away (without my glasses on) it looked like a painting in an ornate frame.

But out of all of the landscapes, this is my very favorite.
"Sweet Meadow" by Jennifer Treece.

Go and see this delightful painting and find the other heart!
Next Juana and I went to Plymouth Coffee Bean Co. for savory crepes and coffee (Juana had "dirty" chai instead of coffee). Deeeee-lish. We brought home dessert for later.
Then we went to see Peggy Kerwan at the opening reception for her solo show "Mixed Musings" in the Civic Center Atrium Gallery at Novi Civic Center. It is a lovely space and a lovely show by a lovely, lovely artist and new friend. You really must see this show in person!

Artist Peggy Kerwan with my very favorite piece in the show.

This is entitled "Island Life"

Juana and I both really liked this piece -- "Inside the Nest"
Wow -- even Peggy's beautiful dress was hand painted!

This one is actually tied for first place for my favorite...there were too many people in front of it the first time around.
This is "Myth of the Eclipse"

And here is another that really caught my eye -- "East Coast Rose".
I love the overall feel of the piece and as you move in for a closer look you are totally wowed by all of the details and teensy pieces of inclusions. I really love how the painting carries over onto the frame.
Peggy paints on rice paper and repurposed bits and pieces to bring such wonderful details to her work.

Next Juana and I came back to my house to PLAY MAGIC: THE GATHERING!!! It has been forever since we played. Twink got to visit with his friend Juana, too. We ordered an amaaaazing pizza from Benito's and played and laughed and played and had our dessert from earlier and just had a fabulous time and then it was 1 a.m. Great day!
