Day 24 - 365/2014

Day Twenty-Four

Today I put magnets on the backs of the my collection of "Penciled In" -- a series I have done for Art-o-mat.  I did the first two editions on my own but I am not very skilled at choosing and applying colors...I have trouble with shading, highlighting, etc.  For the rest of the editions I have had collaborators...Juana Moore, and William Hessian.  In addition, my friend Annabella did one really cool giraffe.  Terri is considering working on the next edition with me, but that is still in the works.

Anyway...here are the photos from earlier today.

Back at it...affixing magnets to AOM artwork.
Several editions of "Penciled In"...the first ones were from 2008.

The newest section of what is turning into a collaborative wall.
It amazes me how different my basic drawings can look depending on who is coloring them.
Eventually I would like to get another decorative powdered metal magnet board, but for now I am happy with this solution.

Tonight I have been occupied with reworking an old collaborative collage that I was never really happy with.  I just couldn't make my part of it work.  I like the dog guy, though and I am sanding the plaque down as close to the wood as I can.  I worked on it with the electric sander tonight but I really can't get any closer to the image with it...I have already had one small accident but I think it is salvageable.

How the piece is looking after the electric sander (and the minor mishap).
I finally came up with another image I think works much better than the collage images I used the first time around.
But this is as far as I have gotten...I think I am done for tonight.

Day 11 - 365/2014

Day Eleven

OMG...two things...two incredible things...I am nearly vibrating I am so excited!

Incredible Thing #1 -- While fooling around in the studio today I found these Art-o-mat masterpieces!

SO happy to see these Art-o-mat pieces again!  The two fox blocks are by Bonnie Pfingst, the Bearded Bunny is by William Hessian, and the zombie Lemmy is by Patrick Harris.

And

Incredible Thing #2 -- I can't stand it!!!  I have been looking forEVER for this quote from a short film I saw a long time ago...I remember most of it but I could never get the words right.  I haven't ever been able to remember enough details to find it in online searches but tonight while I was still going through old phrases/quotes/text from various sources I FOUND IT!!!

Aiiiiiiiiiieeeeee -- I never ever thought I would find the source of this little chant -- I cannot explain how thrilled I am!

And I found a few links for it online.  Here is the one with the most info.  I can remember the intonation of the chanting...I remember the dark moodiness of the short film...it is magic!

Now I want/need to track down a version I can watch and/or purchase that is on DVD.

GREAT evening!!!

(all of this naturally causes me to hear "Say your right words!" from Labyrinth in my head)

Day 2 - 365/2014

Day Two

It is becoming a riot of color in here -- I am so happy!

The wall area "before" -- I will do something else with my prints.
Today I added more of my Art-o-mat collection to the walls in my studio.  I put little velcro dots on my "Strange Birds" by Elin Waterston.  I scattered the tiny bird quilts around the (insert correct name here: walkway/frame/whatever).  It is wonderful being an Art-o-mat machine host because you can order specific art for your machine -- you can request the art of current artists.  (This will come up again in future posts.)  Elin's "Strange Birds" series came out in several versions over a couple of years.  They were really popular in my machine and I sold out of them quickly every time I ordered them -- hence, I grabbed one or two at a time for my own collection when I could.  There was also a special one that we traded in person at an Art-o-mat anniversary swap meet.  Elin also made a version for an art exhibition that featured one of my machines.  (I am down to one machine again.)

And, by the way, Elin was the person who most influenced me to start a thing-a-day/365 blog.  Here is a link to Elin's blog.  I absolutely love Elin's artwork and I find Elin very inspirational on all kinds of levels.

Getting ready to place the velcro dots on the backs.
Can you stand it ?!?  These birds are just so wonderful -- I love each one -- they make me smile, big time!
I started out putting two velcro dots on the little quilts, then switched to one dot in the very middle -- can you even tell which one has two dots?
Eeee -- I am giddy -- I am so happy!
Art-o-mat art on display!!!
The new view from my desk!

And you may have noticed that the top of the chest has more items than before.  I also put out more of my collection there.  Quite a bit of these items are no longer available...I have been collecting for a long time.

Some of the 3D items from my collection.

I am so excited to finally start displaying some of my Art-o-mat collection -- I haven't looked at some of this stuff in quite a while -- it's like opening birthday presents!  More to come.
