2012/365 - Day 233

more worky work and tweaking

This photo pretty much lays out my day yesterday and the next few days ahead.

I am not terribly great at computery stuff and label making is a hit or miss kind of thing.  I can never remember from one time to the next how I did something...even when I write it down as I am doing it...LOL.  Hard to teach an old Capricorn newfangled tricks (and retain them).

So yesterday evening was a long process of: do it, redo it, keep it, tweak it, start over again because I didn't remember how to save just part of something, print, scan, try again, repeat...BUT...I ended up with a box label and a placard I am pretty happy with.

I liked the dog label but it is a little hard to read (in person) I think because the dog is more soft focused...the rabbit has sharper lines and works better for the label.  The lettering is much more yellow than it looks in these scans.

#4 is the winner.

This is the placard that will be in Art-o-mat machines to tell you what is in that column.

See -- this is how the yellow really looks.

Today I will be working on the information insert for the artpack.  I am going to try really hard to keep it simple and just give the url for William, this blog, and the Penciled In blog.  Fingers crossed I can stick to the plan...LOL.  I will probably use the regular end labels from the previous edition(s) of Penciled In -- no need to change them.

Back to work!

365 Day 309

working on the Tookies boxes

Today I have been printing out the labels, running the pages through the Xyron 900, and cutting them to size.

ready to put the labels on the boxes...

...yay!

I ran out of Xyron stuff before I could do the main labels, so it will be Monday before I can get a refill...ah well.

365 Day 211

almost ready to ship

I got farther than I expected to today in the process of preparing the Penciled In blocks and boxes for shipping to Artists in Cellophane, aka Art-o-mat HQ. I actually only need to put on the cellophane/acetate and put them in a shipping box...and take the boxes to the post office.

close up on the labels

Last night I ran the pages that I printed the label images on through the Xyron machine to be made into stickers. Last night I also trimmed them and put half of them onto boxes.

This morning I put the other fifty on the boxes and bundled them all up.

There are 20 characters with 5 coloring variations of each. Because I already scanned them for the Penciled In blog and also posted the photos as entries with numbers on that blog I decided to do one more labeling step. It was a little tedious but in the long run it will make things easier for Carol when she pulls my artpacks for orders. She will be able to tell what is in the box and that will make it easier for her to give a host an assortment rather than possibly ending up with say 4 out of 5 of the cats with crowns in one order.

So I made a label that says in general what is in the box (young rabbit in this case). I also wanted to make it easier for new owners to identify their characters on the blog...so I made a label for that as well, leaving a blank spot for me to fill in as I packed the boxes.

ooh...pretty colors of tissue paper and cool mini moo cards

A Penciled In artpack labeled and ready to be stuffed with the block, info insert and mini moo card...all wrapped in tissue.

the five "big dog" art packs stuffed, and numbered/labeled

the box is starting to fill up...

THAT'S what I like to see -- 100 artpacks ready for acetate. I think I will probably do that tomorrow.

365 Day 45

time consuming work today

Today was spent taking my three adult cats (in two trips) to the vet for regularly scheduled check ups (everybody is fine, thanks) -- and scoring about 15 magazines from the veterinary office (thanks!) Now all four cats are all set until August.

But the bulk of my time this afternoon and this evening went to making labels for this next batch of 100 Tookies for Art-o-mat. This part takes time whether I do it before or after the finger puppets are made...so I may as well get it taken care of first.

I also signed and dated all of the boxes.

It always amazes me just how long it takes cut the labels apart after running them through the Xyron machine. Most of them are cut with the paper cutter, but the Tookies labels for the front of the boxes are all trimmed by hand. Not complaining...just sayin'.

Early this morning I was looking over my plans for the toy-themed show at Paint Creek Center for the Arts -- deadline for submissions is March 5. I found a rather large flaw in my plan for one of my submissions. I think I figured out a work around for it. We'll see what my friend/accomplice/helper has to say. In the meantime, I need to get cracking on the main parts of the toys!
