2012/365 - Day 229

almost there

All I have to say is:
  1. bad, bad allergy day (mostly spent in a Benadryl fog)
  2. 90 down 10 to go (then on to the next step)

2012/365 - Day 227

more finger puppet faces

Another day of working on Tookies finger puppet faces and then errands and then more sewing.

I've been trying to come up with some different color combinations for the eyelashes than what I've done in other batches.

These two guys have dark blue + cream eyelashes.

This one has powder blue + yellow.

Teal + cobalt blue

Light purple + pale blue

These two have light blue + chartreuse green

When the faces are at this stage and the puppet is not constructed more I get pretty giddy towards the end of my sewing session(s) because the expressions on the faces sort of look like  surprised chickens to me.  It kind of amazes me how much they change as they get side seams and then "hair" -- but right now they are totally flat and goofy.

2012/365 - Day 225

faces times twenty-five

Whew -- I have finished twenty-five Tookies (finger puppets) faces so far and I am at that point where I ask myself if I want to continue making the faces on the other seventy-five Tookies for Art-o-mat -- OR -- do I want to complete these twenty-five and be done with that much.

The problem with completing these is that the temptation becomes very great to use them for other projects when I need "something".  If they aren't finished, I am more likely to leave them for Art-o-mat...which is what I need to do (and probably will do).

The ideal situation would be to get all one hundred to this face (button eyes, embroidery floss mouth and eyelashes) stage and then start the cutting off the fingers step...then the sewing up the side seam step...then the sewing up the top seam step...then the bottom seam step...then the "hair" step, then the decorative yarn on the side seam step...then the oooh-that's-soft yarn around the bottom of the finger.

Heh -- THEN the packaging.

2012/365 - Day 224

painting Penciled In edges and sewing Tookies faces

It has been an Art-o-mat production kind of day...plus a personal giant bonus.

Back to work in the basement with the painting of the edges of the MDF blocks.

This time it was Halo Pink Gold.  It is another one of those changing-colors-as-you-move-it colors.

You can see the pink in it, but it mostly looks gold.

I did a few extra ones (instead of the usual ten at a time).  This is 34 down, however many more to go (I found there are a few more than 50...but I didn't count them.)

This was my giant personal bonus for today.

Twink and Tull are sleeping in the little kitty bed in the front window together -- AND -- Twink didn't jump out when he saw me coming with the camera!   Awww...I've been waiting for this moment.

Okay -- back to work!

I switched to  Halo Purple Gold.  This has a different color of gold and a lighter purple than I used on the earlier blocks.

See -- here is the purple...

...and here is the gold.

I think this color really works for the blocks I was having trouble choosing a color for.

And there they all are -- 52 or 53 -- one of them is the prototype -- and the others over 50 will go into the second batch of 50 that William is working on and will (hopefully) bring with him when he makes his way back to Minnesota in December -- he will be stopping by Northville to participate in an Arto-Session I want to put together.
And I have the first 25 (of 100) Tookies pulled out and I am working on putting faces on them.

I did these this afternoon.  I am going to keep working on them as I watch tv tonight.

I will be stopping at a total of 25 tonight (that includes the 7 from yesterday) and I have been taking breaks in between sewing them -- but then again, this isn't really the part that gets to my hands -- still, I am stopping at 25.
