Day 62 - 365/2014

Day Sixty-Two

What did I do today...well, sorted through more magazines, worked on Biteyou (the bearlike monster creature guy that I started working on with Peggy's help back on Day 51), and hung up a really cool doll that Franciney gave me.

Ready to get to work!
Quick shot of the colors I am using so I don't forget for next time.
Trying out a layer of decorative mulberry paper to cover up the background and circles that I don't like.
Two sides of decorative mulberry paper to cover up those circles...I will probably paint over them or collage the background or something...not sure yet...but it won't stay like this.
Peggy told me to keep turning the canvas and working on it from different angles...so I did...going at it sideways.
The decorative paper close up.
I hope I can paint his face nicely.
Biteyou -- drying a bit before I move him into the studio.

Throughout the late afternoon and early evening I worked on clearing out another one of the bins of magazines...pulling images to cut later and stacking the bags in the "to be recycled" closet.

TWO empty bins!
That closet is getting kinda tippy!

Franciney bid on and won several handmade dolls at the Holly Dolly Fundraiser at Paint Creek Center for the Arts in Rochester (I think it was around xmastime).  When Franciney was working on my taxes she asked me if I would like to have the Robert Tucker voodoo zombie doll that I had admired.  I said "YES!!!" and Juana delivered it to me last week.  Tonight I hung it in the perfect spot.

Voo Doo Zombie doll by Robert Tucker (thank you SO much, Franciney!)
The new view from my desk...Art-o-mat art, Renee Dooley skeleton doll, Leann Meixner voodoo boxes and 2-part quilt, paper doll by me, Mary Fortuna animal dolls, Arthur Brown flaming head mask, and Robert Tucker voo doo zombie.
Okay...time to watch elevate/medicate/cold pack and watch tv!

Day 60 - 365/2014

Day Sixty

I was determined to get something done today -- anything -- and I feel like I did.

I have a ton of used magazines (from various sources) and they take up a lot of room in my house.  There are bins in the living room, a bin and a dresser full of them in my bedroom, another giant bin n the basement...and that isn't counting the two rolling drawer carts and several boxes of cut up images. Today I wanted to at least make a dent in the inventory.

The bins full of magazines in the living room.
The dresser full of magazines in the bedroom -- two stacks deep on each shelf.
After I pulled images all afternoon and into the evening I had seven grocery bags of magazines waiting to go to the paper recycling program at Andi's daughter's school.
An empty bin!
An empty shelf!
Images to cut!

Later I cooked a nice dinner for myself (cod and orzo with spinach, onions and garlic).  After dinner I wanted to assemble at least the four Animal Kid collages that I started a few days ago.

All ready to get started on a few Animal People collages.
These four Animal Kids took a lot longer than I was anticipating -- I am done for the night!

365/2013 - Day 247

whoa -- a very floaty and loopy day

I do not like to take Benadryl in the morning.  I do everything I can to avoid it.  Today is/has been/continues to be a very very allergic reaction day.  I took Benadryl at 8:00 a.m.  Man.

I am very thankful that I had no where to be today and no plans.  All I have been able to accomplish is to pull images for collages.  I am so floaty and loopy...with bouts of nausea and dizziness...and this accompanies all of the icky other feelings of heat, cold, fuzziness, numbness, itchiness, you name it and it is happening today.  I can smell mildew and I can't find the source...but then again no one else has said they can smell it.  Sometimes I process odors oddly but it all comes back to my body doing the allergy alert thing.  And waaaaah, poor Took.

So throughout the entire day and night I have been alternately pulling images and nodding off and startling awake and pulling images, etc.

I filled three paper grocery bags with magazines...that is a good dent in my stash.

Twink quickly slips in to investigate the front hall closet where the recyclable paper is kept -- the cats are not allowed in this closet.

365/2013 - Day 240

not very interesting today

I worked at the Art House again today and I was able to put a lot of time into pulling images from the cat/dog magazines.  I signed a little girl up for a class and answered the phone a few times and welcomed exhibit-goers...but mostly I was pulling images.

This is two day's worth of work on pulling images -- and one brown paper grocery bag FULL of magazine scraps for recycling.

If you know me in real life, you know I am not someone who takes very many pictures of food...and certainly none with a cell phone (I don't even own one).  But tonight when I was making my "lettuce-less salad" everything was just so fresh and tasty-looking that I had to take a picture.

SO yummy...cucumbers, cauliflower. grape tomatoes, sweet onion, and incredible radishes ready for Aunt Mid's garlic vinaigrette.

365/2013 - Day 238

pulling images and wrapping horns

Today I spent the afternoon pulling images of cats and dogs from magazines that my vet's office save for me.  After a couple of hours I realized -- duh -- this would be a great activity for me during not-so-busy times at the Northville Art House this week.  I am filling in for Patti Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Patti will be back on Saturday.  I tried working with Tookies last Saturday (early on when I first arrived -- before the crush started during the Food Truck Rally) but there really isn't enough room back there at the desk.  The magazines would be easily stacked and set aside when needed.  Yay.

Then I got an idea for the guy with the long horns.  I wanted to do something more with the horns than just paint them.  I grabbed a package of rope/clothesline from the basement and gave it a go.

tape and rope -- the beginning
both horns wrapped -- rear view
front view -- something's not quite right...oh...the rope on the right horn needs to slant down -- you may remember I am not very good at mirror images
okay -- right horn re-wrapped...nope...not right yet
re-re-wrapped on the right...still not right, but better...I will see how I feel about it once I  have put plaster cloth on the left horn -- it may turn out I am not happy with the rope any way...LOL
I need to turn the computer off now...we are supposed to get more thunderstorms (we had some this morning) and I wanted to get this posted NOW so I won't have to worry about whether we lose electricity or not.  There have been a couple of rumbles and it is already getting darker.
