Day Three Hundred Twenty-Three
Today was a day of
-- coffee with Jan, Leann, and Joan
-- meeting up with my sister and then an unexpected and delicious lunch with her
-- about 5 errands (babystepping on semi-fresh slushy (by then) snow in my tennis shoes)
-- much pain from the babystepping on slippy parking lots and sidewalks
This evening's project was updating the blog post of last Thursday. I managed to narrow it down to SIXTY photos that all needed a little editing. What a blast that paper mask making project was! Here is a LINK to see the blog post...and within that post is a link to the creator of the masks.

Day 297 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Ninety-Seven
Meh...pain filled day, errands, allergies, pounding headache...I have a big adventure coming up tomorrow and I need to get two mountains of laundry done and hopefully also tackle the pile of dishes. So...nothing to show for today.
The bowling pin cat-creature is still pretty damp overall and needs to dry out before it gets more tweaking.
I am looking forward to tomorrow!

365/2013 - Day 89
Thank You, Ace...
I felt like a Project Runway designer leaving Mood after my trip to Ace this afternoon. SO much more helpful and enthusiastic than the Home Depot folks (sorry). But, after all, ACE is a hardware store and HD is not. The first young guy behind the Services counter listened and seemed to get what I was asking, but I think maybe he is sill sort of new. He called someone named Joe over and Joe was GREAT! Another young guy (slightly older-looking and a bit more familiar with the store/products) Joe is fabulous at thinking outside of the normal hardware uses box. Once we got rolling, he had really wonderful suggestions! And I want/need to say that both of the guys knew what I was talking about when I was describing the smaller double-pointy-ended-roundy-tack thing.
I still need to come up with a counterbalance weight item to replace the container of cat litter -- we just couldn't find anything that would be dead weight AND relatively inexpensive...BUT...while I was at the check out Joe DID get a last-second idea and came back with some metal ribbon-like thing with continuous holes in it...if I get something like a cinder block or anchor or something I can strap it down with this stuff (last photo).
Part of what took me so long to get started tonight was I had to figure out how I could position the croco-creature without needing to bend down and work upside down from my chair (like I did yesterday) and still not hammer into the wood and keep bouncing the table top base on the casters.
This is what I finally came up with and it seems to be working pretty well. IF the croco-creature starts to go off-balance I can catch him easily at this height. It is actually more stable than it looks.
ALSO earlier today...
Juana and I went to lunch and to LIFT and to the m:tg card shop and had a great time...but first I brought her the Wowl. I've only "owed" her this guy (for her birthday) since probably 2010 because I made him in 2011. A couple of days ago I finally got up the nerve to varnish him.
When I got home and got around to looking at Facebook I found that Juana had already done a photo shoot with the Wowl -- cool! He looks so different to me in a setting other than my studio. I am glad he is a hit. Thanks for taking such cool pics, Juana!

I was hoping the cabinet was going to fit in between the casters but it didn't. But the box of foil does! |

I know...I know...it does look a bit precarious but it is pretty stable. |

THESE smaller, rounder, double-pointed tack things!!! And I have them in black and in silver tone...LOL |
This was another idea Joe came up with after I described the situation. The copper bends easily! |

I am forcing myself to only do a few at a time to save my hand. It surprises me how much work it still is using the drill to screw the screws into the wood. |
This is the stuff that I can use to strap down whatever it is I end up using to replace the container of cat litter. |

2012/365 - Day 7
not much to see today
Today was a day of running around and errands, car trips back and forth...stuff like that...coupled with heavy duty allergic reactions to something in the air which required a dose of Benadryl. Gah.
I put two coats of gesso on the cat-creature's repaired areas. They seem to have worked just fine. Very satisfying and good to know I can fix something that far along in the process.

One of my errands was a trip to Michael's to pick up some Speedball ink for block printing.
While I was there I passed a 50% off display of various storage items. I was thinking that this wheeled thingy could be put to use with the plaster cloth guys somehow. At $19.99 I wasn't interested...at ten bucks, sure...I'll give it a go.

While I was putting it together I had the idea that maybe the sides could go face down and cover up the wheels...
...nope...well, it could but it doesn't roll so well because the wheels are limited to how far they can turn -- they can only go three quarters of a circle before they hit the walls of the trim.
Oh well.

Still...for ten bucks this isn't bad. It doesn't roll smoothly like this...yet.
Maybe I have the wheels on in the wrong configuration -- two of them lock.
Maybe with some weight in the cart part it will roll better.
I think it was well worth ten bucks for pre-cut pieces of finished MDF (or something like it) with a bunch of pre-drilled holes that I can use later.
I also picked up some tacky stuff for finally finishing off the wowl, and a few packets of little wooden blocks and spools for making those carved "landscape" elements into dimensional pictures. More on that in a few days.
Between the Benadryl and using the screwdriver and paintbrush I am going to take the night off and not try to make any Animal People collages. I am going to listen to my hand(s) and stop while I am ahead...for once.

365 Day 106
general work day
Today I have been working on sorting and clearing up things, packing up auctions that closed, running very close/short errands and then working on 'Nipped.

before
It may be sort of hard to see it, but I put two layers of color on today. The before photo shows how the various painted layers were still showing through most of the piece. The next photo show the orange-over-a-layer-of-yellow detail.

after
I am starting to get more close to being done now and I don't want to show overall shots until after the opening of Meth & Hot Dogs 2. I will continue to show close up shots and teasers.

365 Day 59
another all-nighter
Man. Last night turned into one of those ridiculous all-nighters again. Where you lose track of time and then you have to get up reeeeally early so you just say "heck with it -- I will just stay up" and then things start to get blurry and then it is daylight and you are meeting up with your sister for coffee but you take an hour's nap and feel a little better and then you go and run errands (I know at some point during the blur that was today, Juana and I were at LIFT, I changed the art in the Art-o-mat machine and we went to the hardware store) and then when you get home and your kitten sits on you and starts some "purr therapy" and you start to relax and then before you even know it you apparently finally fall asleep and then you wake up and it is dark outside and the only light on inside is the tv and you don't know if it is 6 in the morning or 6 in the evening and then it is suddenly 10:30 p.m. and you're like "oh NO...was the DVR set for my shows?!?" and then you go "crap -- did I post to the blog???"...you know...one of THOSE days.
ANYway...at some point (technically) very early today I drew over print outs of Piece #1 so I could get an idea of what the tuxedo cat-like creature is supposed to look like...it made sense at the time. Whether I can pull this off in time is a whole different question.
