a very moving and magical movie day
Wow. I had high hopes for the film version of Life of Pi. I re-read the book last week and I was eager to see the movie. Today my sister Sue and I went to lunch and then to see the film. All I can say is that it did not disappoint.
I first read the book during a time in my life when it really had a lot of impact on me. Today the film rekindled all of the emotion and magic. I don't care what anyone else says -- I absolutely loved the movie and was emotionally drained leaving the theater. I want to see it again.
I usually do not like 3D movies. This was instantly fabulous. The opening scenes of the zoo were exactly as I pictured it when I read the book. Yes, the movie strayed in parts from the book -- but doesn't that always happen? I don't know why some people are giving this film harsh criticisms for that. I felt the movie worked...really, really worked.
ANYway -- Life of Pi was my artful immersion for today. Such glorious imagery and emotion. Man.
Unfortunately, today was also extremely hard on my knee and with tomorrow morning's MRI (finally) I need to cold pack my knee and keep my leg elevated. I hurt way too much to concentrate on any artwork. My meds are doing their thing and I am a bit drowsy -- going to bed early and getting up early and getting myself in for the MRI.
Back at it tomorrow -- I just wanted to check in.

2012/365 - Day 329
reading and playing that game
I know, I know...I have not been productive at all today. I have been reading my book and playing the shiny distraction (Glitch). Glitch is closing down in early December, and I really don't know why I have been playing it so much today in particular...but I have been and that (plus reading my book) are what have taken up my day and night today.
I know it is hard to see, but those are little "heli cats" that fly around with their tails acting like helicopter blades. They purr and make the sweetest sounds. That is me in my tiara and lab coat and sparkly shoes. Ridiculous but compelling. It is kind of a good thing (for me) that the game is going away...it is really hard to not play it. It really is/was wonderful and indescribable.
I am going to try to add a couple of videos from YouTube to show you what the game was like -- but the videos just scratch the surface of how it was...and I've only been playing for a few months...I can imagine how tough it is for the people who have played it from the beginning to have to let it go now.

2012/365 - Day 327
purposely quiet day
I have had a very quiet day...reading often makes me sleepy and drowsy, no matter how engrossed I am in the story. So it has been read...get so deeply drawn into the story that I barely notice anything else...Bootsy keeping me company...drop off to sleep...startle awake...read some more...get pulled back into the story...repeat.
Today (and for the next few days) I am re-reading one of my favorite books of all time, "Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. Sue said she'd go with me to the theater to see the movie version on Monday (or Tuesday). I am very excited for this because number one, Sue and I rarely go to the movies together anymore...and number two, I can NOT wait to see this story played out on the big screen of a theater.
I am very glad that the movie was finally able to be made after so many difficulties and delays. And I am most excited to see Richard Parker.
