2012/365 - Day 99

from the recycle bin

Monday is trash collection day on my street and I was just looking around getting stuff bagged up for the morning.  I have a fairly good sized box of cardboard to go out for the recycling bin and it occurred to me I might put some of it to even better use myself.

Pookie and Avalon eat canned food twice a day and I have loads of these cardboard trays that I normally toss into the recycle bin.

There is a LOT of surface to cover and even out on the goat-creature.  Hmmm...

I cut up one of the cardboard trays and filled in the gaps underneath with folded paper rags.  Then I taped them onto the goat-creature.

I used a combination of paper rags underneath and wadded wet plaster cloth on the edges to add more strength.

I tried a couple of different ideas to see what will work the best.

The goat-creature was turned a bit to put the wet area facing up.

I hope this works out...it will save lots of time, plaster cloth, aggravation, etc.

I am still thinking about what to do with the inside.

2012/365 - Day 26

time to get back to wet work

Now that the cat-creature is done and in the varnishing stage, I am ready to get back to some wet plaster cloth work -- yay! It feels like it has been ages since I worked on anything.

Remember this guy? Here is the very first day I worked on him.

He has changed quite a bit since then. Today he still needed a bit of tweaking.

I needed to fill in some "valleys" and smooth him out.

I like this guy so much!

He is looking better now...it is hard to see in the first picture, but he was looking like he'd been in a fight and had chunks missing or something.

I worked on him enough tonight...my fingers are all pruney.

I had almost forgotten what it is like to work on something "small". Trying to smooth the plaster cloth in tight spots was a bit of a challenge...but it felt good.

He still has a few spots that need fixing and I have to figure out what the base is going to do. I also need to plot out how I will work on him so that I am not making more trouble for myself. I need to figure out in what order things need to happen.

365 Day 203 -- part two

whew...that's enough for tonight!

Cool -- I am getting better at estimating how much plaster cloth I need to cut up for a session. I only had a few trianlges left over this time!

I am really happy with this guy so far.

This is the back view of him.

This is the underneath part of the smaller ball.

Since I didn't cover the balls with masking tape, I thought I better totally cover them with plaster cloth...just in case.

And here is the front view. I am really in love (right now) with the roundness and relative smoothness of this guy. I might leave him like this.

Might.

That would mean some heavy duty (for me) painting when it comes time.

I could leave him like this and make another one and give the new one a face that has more shape to it. Hmmm...
