Day One Hundred Ninety-Five

Today I have been trying out some shapes on the rabbit-like guy...at least on half of him.  I'm not sure if I will keep this idea or not.  

I think he will have "regular" hands vs grabby ones...and most likely just a vest...but maybe a coat.

Trying to round off his haunches/torso...I need to cover up the plaque that is connecting the torso and his legs.

This may be beyond my capabilities (right now).

Eh...not so bad for a first try, I guess...goofy looking, though.

Part of a vest...looks a little better in person.

Day 194 - 365/2014

Day One Hundred Ninety-Four

Tonight I worked on the rabbit-like guy's shoes.  I needed to make the underneaths solid and done -- I can fix up the tops and sides later.  I probably should have waited until after I had his legs/haunches area done (because it will be drippy and messy) but I can also cover the shoes up with a plastic bag when it comes to that time.  I just "needed" to do these shoes tonight.

I started by tracing the shape of the shoe form onto the oatmeal box cardboard to fit onto the bottom of the shoe.

I stuffed the inside of the shoe form with Scott rags...

...and then used masking tape to secure the whole thing.

I made strips of the cardboard for the sides of the shoes by tracing the big ruler...it was just the right width.  Each shoe gets two strips of cardboard taped together.

Taping the shoe into place to see how it might look.

No time for photos during the plaster cloth covering of the shoe form and strap.

Holding the strap in place around the leg to get the basic shape...

...and then quickly (and with one hand) filling in the tiny gap between the front of the shoe and the strap and holding it in place for a minute or to while the plaster cloth did the initial set up.

Cool -- looks like it will work!

One down...one to go...time for a break.

Yep -- I like the look of this so far.

And then it was time for a break...feed the cats, make my dinner.

And then it was the second shoe -- the process seemed to go much more quickly this time.

The building of the second shoe seemed to go more quickly...I am sure I did a few steps differently, but the outcome is basically the same.

Not too bad for a first try!

It looks like he wants "up".

Great...now they both want "up".

Day 193 - 365/2014

Day One Hundred Ninety-Three

Today I cleared enough space in the wet studio to be able to work.  Yay -- it's about time!

I have been wanting to get to work on the rabbit-like guy.  Tonight I decided on arms for him and attached them.  Later I put plaster cloth around the torso/plaque/legs area.  I need to figure out how his body is going to look around his hips/haunches and what kind of clothes and hands he will have.  I also posed him with the shoe forms to see what sort of work they will need...besides needing to be solid and have a flat underneath part where the sole of the shoe should be.

READY to get started!

I found these arms and played around with the placement until I (naturally) settled on this.

Yay -- they seem pretty stable.

Then I put plaster cloth all around the torso/plaque/legs.

Whew -- that is enough for tonight.

Day 192 - 365/2014

Day One Hundred Ninety-Two

Two things are preventing me from working on the plaster cloth rabbit-like guy tonight.

First, a raging, throbbing, impossible headache.

Second, this is where I would be working...I have to clear a spot first...sheesh.

I guess my day is pre-planned for tomorrow!

Day 191 - 365/2014 (a day late) (updated, finally)

Day One Hundred Ninety-One

Thursday was Second Thursday and Juana demo'd how to make Polaroid transfers.  Terri and Juana stayed long after the meeting and we talked until 1:30 a.m. -- that is why I missed my deadline. (Okay -- I am finally here to update this post...7/14.)

Because I am editing this several days after the fact, and because some people were sitting in different spots, and because some people used a few of Juana's old Polaroids...here are the photos from this really cool activity but I don't know which transfers belong to who.

Present tonight:  Juana, Julia, Took, Joan, Terri, Jane, Janice.

I know this was my transfer.

And Joan did this one.

And Jane did this waaaaay cool overlapping one.

The next day I tore mine a bit -- this is how I will use it in a collage sometime.
