Day 341 - 365/2014

Day Three Hundred Forty-One

I have been feeling like I wanted to sew something.  I was considering trying a new design for Art-o-mat, rather than doing more Tookies finger puppets.  I worked on this guy for about four hours. I know, I know...it sure doesn't look like I spent that much time on him, but I did.

After all that time I decided I wasn't that happy with him the way he was and I also decided that it was waaaaay too much work to put into a series of fifty pieces...if it was even accepted.  So I set it aside for a little while and then I went back to it.

I didn't just want to toss out four hours of work, so I decided to keep him for me and just keep adding on things until he felt finished.  Also, I no longer needed to be concerned with whether he'd fit in the box or how I was going to weight the box for vending, etc.  I am not sure he is totally done yet -- he might need some more embellishments...but it is now 11 at night and I am done for today!

Hmmm...what to do with him now...
Spikes and a tail extension, for starters!
And I changed his mouth...I kind of like him (so far).
The view from the back.
Yes, he has his arms stretched out in the "up, please" pose.

Day 340 - 364/2014

Day Three Hundred Forty

Tonight's blog post is being made possible by my friend Terri Light.  She is at Mike Kelly's "It Came from the Gutter 2 -- Bowling Pin Art Show" at the Garden Bowl in the Majestic Complex in Detroit.  It looks like she is having a blast, too!  The show runs through December 21 (I hope to visit it next Friday with Peggy.)  I swiped a bunch of Terri's photos from Facebook to share...here they are:

Day 339 - 365/2014

Day Three Hundred Thirty-Nine

I dragged myself out of the house today.  I made a run up to the Northville Art House to buy some last minute raffle tickets for tonight's raffle gift basket drawings.  I also wanted to see the mosaic show in person...wow.  I couldn't afford to bid on anything this time around...but, wow.  Here are a few of my favorites.

Upper gallery at the Northville Art House -- it will be packed in there tonight for the First Friday events.
These mosaics are a part of the 2014 International Mosaic Auction for Doctors Without Borders, organized by Lin Schorr.

And when I got home, there were two surprises in my mailbox.  A watercolor postcard of Krampus from Leann...and my second flip book that I ordered!

Later on I was looking around in the studio and I came across a small bin of Animal People that I put together while making the collages for Art-o-mat, but that were too large for the blocks.  These two totally separate guys are cracking me up and I think I will build a collage around them.  I was thinking I would like to put them in a shadow box and make the collage sort of dimensional...or maybe use a cigar box lid...so I "went shopping in my basement" and I came up with a few wooden nesting frames that might work.  I also found some painter's masking tape in case I want to use the cigar box lid...I would want to keep the patterned edge and I'd need to mask it...I didn't realize I had the painter's tape...cool.

Lifting the guy in front up a little to see how they might look in a shadow box.
The stuff I found while I was shopping in my basement.
The smaller frame seems to be the right size for this.
OR it could even be a shadow box itself...hmmm.

I am going to take my time with this...no rush...no deadlines.  I was just fooling around with it and I will come back to it over the next few days.

Day Three Hundred Thirty-Eight

DONE!  All of the Animal People collage blocks are wrapped in cellophane/acetate and ready to be packed for shipping (most likely) tomorrow!

Day 337 - 365/2014

Day Three Hundred Thirty-Seven

Hard physical day again, but back at the Animal People finishing up part(s) tonight.

Day 336 - 365/2014 (a day late)

Day Three Hundred Thirty-Six

Another really tough day physically...no project for today...BUT...Terri graciously offered to drop off Peggy's "Bite Me" bowling pin and my "Cat-Creature" bowling pin at the venue for the show and she came by tonight to get them.

Terri hung around a bit and I showed her the way cool flip book that arrived in the mail.

And Terri also delivered the Mystery Oracle collage I purchased from her...this one is SO me!  I really really love it!

Day 335 - 365/2014

Day Three Hundred Thirty-Five

No blog post today.  I try to put on a cheery face and act like everything is okay. I tried very hard to get something/anything done today.  I share this as an explanation, not a bid for sympathy -- my pain level today is extreme.  That's all I have to say.
