My hands are quite a bit better today but they are still going numb if I am not careful -- which is why I am going to listen and take one more night off.

Day 279 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Seventy-Nine
Whoa -- the overdoing it stuff from Saturday and Sunday really caught up with my hands today. Very swollen and red joints, pretty painful...baseball mitt hands.
Not much I can do about it but take it somewhat easy/elevate/cold pack. Get back to work again tomorrow, but a little more slowly -- no marathon hand tools-ing.

Day 278 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Seventy-Eight
Well...that was a learning experience. I half-started working on my bowling pin without a firm (or even semi-firm) idea of what I wanted to do. I tried sketching on the paper cut outs and it just wasn't helping so I decided to just take the plunge and get the "feel" of the shape of the pin. Several hours -- and several plaster cloth sessions -- later I pretty much ended up back at square one...but at least I have a better understanding of what I need to do now.

| I am trying really hard to not grab the camera while I have plaster cloth-y hands/gloves, so there are no step by steps photos of this stage. But this is what I had after the first plaster cloth session...feeling my way. Not horrible I guess, but I don't really care for it. |

| Leann's husband Mark passed these way cool colored glass radio parts on to me a while back...I was thinking I might be able to use them for this guy. |

| This is the alarming end of session number two -- yikes! Time to pull all of that stuff off. |

| Beginning of session three -- I was able to pull it all off down to the pin. Now to repair the simple first layer and think some more. |

| A little later...thinking I better try to make a form to plaster cloth over...I seem to work better that way. |

| Geez -- not for lack of trying! I know now what I need to do, anyway. |

| I found a way to suspend the pin so that the bottom can dry out. Enough for today! |

| After all of that experimenting I found out what I will need to do so that I can work more like me. The head is going to need to be made like a helmet of sorts, and be placed over the top of the pin...not be built off of the surface of the pin. I may end up painting the face part on the "flat" surface, but the head needs to be constructed first. |
Okay...that is quite enough for tonight...my hands are killing me...not from the plaster cloth but from trying to squeeze aluminum foil into hard shapes...gah. At least I got through the first try -- and found that for me to be happy with this guy I need to not make an elongated face down the front of the pin.

Day 277 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Seventy-Seven
Okay -- here is the updated and (very) shortened version of how it is sometimes not such a great thing to be a hyper-focused triple Capricorn hellbent on getting something done.
It involved bringing in the mannequin from the back porch and getting it down to the basement, (let me say that it is very slippery to hold on to when the arms are off of it), removing a lot of the inner structure of the goatish head (which involved MUCH hand sawing and using the heavy shears), standing the mannequin up in between the two tables and then trying to hold the goatish head in place to see if it was going to fit. There was much back and forth and stupid determination to finish. The whole thing lasted about four hours.

Day 276 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Seventy-Six
Tough pain day today -- all I've done is add some color to the goat boyfriend collage/transfer/whatever it is.
And last evening Terri brought Peggy and me our bowling pins for an upcoming altered bowling pins show. I am starting to think about what I could do with mine...not paint it, that's for sure!
I took out the color, scanned the image, and made some small cut out paper bowling pins to play around with as an aid with ideas and designs.
Now I can draw on them, cut them apart and reassemble them, etc. with a somewhat realistic feeling for the shape of the pin.

I have not blog post or creative thing to talk about. We had a fun game night playing Cards Against Humanity (with a couple of expansions)...we ordered in pizza...we laughed till we were giddy...good time! Thanks for coming over: Peggy, Terri, Franciney, and Juana!
Time to release the cats and get their dinner.

Day 274 - 365/2014
Day Two Hundred Seventy-Four
Oh yeah...this guy! I was poking around in some stacks near my desk and there he was. I need to clean house a bit more tonight, so this is what I have been working on this afternoon. I gave him green horns (in several shades of green), yellow eyes (two shades of yellow) and then I started to outline him in what I thought was a black oil pencil, but it turned out to be indigo blue...I could see the difference when I touched it to the left horn. I sharpened up a black Prismacolor and got to work. I think it's not too bad.

I think I might like to gray down the background slightly, (or maybe pale blue it), but I really like the papers that make up the fabric of his shirt and the blue from the original painting (that I did in an acrylics class) for the sky...I don't want to lose too much of that.
