today is a big art day for me
Two big art things are happening today. First, "Where the Wild Things Art" opens at the Grosse Pointe Art Center tonight. I have two pieces in the show. Second, I will learn if the two pieces I submitted to "The Biannual All Media Exhibition 2012" at the Detroit Artists Market made the cut.
"Where the Wild Things Art"
The Grosse Pointe Art Center
16900 Kercheval
Grosse Pointe, MI 48230
(313) 821-1848
Open Wednesday - Saturday noon - 6:00 p.m.
The show runs from March 9 - April 4.
There will be a lecture by the show's juror -- Mary Fortuna -- on Saturday, March 10, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
If you are local, I hope you can make it out to see the show sometime during its run!
Here are my two submissions for the show on the day I dropped them off (with my friend Peggy).
This guy's title is "He Dreams He is a Tree".
I love him.
I am surprised I can't recall how tall he is...approximately 11" or so...maybe a bit taller. He is table/desk/shelf sized.
He has about a million colors in him, but he is mostly shades of browns and greens. He is a forest dweller and is as tall as a tree...in "real" life.
I love his tail.
I am very happy with the way his hands and arms turned out.
I also love his sweet face and beard.
And this is the second piece I submitted.
It was my first repurposed canvas...aka canvas #1.
The title is "He Says He Knows Two Ghosts" and he is a monster in a wolf outfit, flanked by two ghosts.
I am very pleased with how this turned out, too.
The ghost on the left.
The ghost on the right.
The monster in the middle.
No doubt I will take lots of photos at the opening tonight, but I wanted to post this now so I wouldn't have to sweat it to get back home tonight and post the photos before my daily midnight blog entry deadline.
And fingers crossed one or both of my pieces get accepted for the DAM show.

"He Dream He is a Tree" is amazing. I just love that guy. One of those creatures you hope pops out of a magical forest. What a great figure!
Awwwww, thanks!
